Hummingbird Pictures
Hummingbird Pictures started out as a way for M.R. Mahar (Maria) and T.A. Strich (Tom) to share their love of hummingbirds. Maria began the site, with its hummingbird photo blog, in 2012. The site is meant for both children and adults.
For years, Maria and Tom have been observing and recording hummingbirds. They started in the garden. It wasn’t strictly a hummingbird garden, but Tom planted many native plants. And the hummingbirds came. Then Tom and Maria began visiting Southeastern Arizona. It went from there.
In 2016, Maria and Tom published an interactive ebook on hummingbirds in the United States.
Hover: Hummingbirds in the United States shows hummingbirds in their daily life. Slow-motion video, close photos, and clear text brings the wonder of our local hummingbirds close enough to see.
Maria gives interactive presentations to schools and community groups based on the material in Hover: Hummingbirds in the United States.
In 2017, Hover and photos by Maria and Tom were on display in the Tempe Youth Library in the art show, It’s a Wildlife. Tom provided hummingbird coloring page designs to the Tempe Library for public outreach and education – the Library distributed more than 2000 sheets to the public during the summer of 2017.
Coloring Hummingbirds
With the beauty of North American hummingbirds and their lives as inspiration, Tom continued to create more hummingbird coloring sheets. Tom’s designs are meant to both reflect the natural beauty of the birds and to inspire you, the colorist, to explore your own creative vision.
Tom’s designs are collected in artist sets as a folio of 4 designs on 100 lb mixed media paper suitable for a wide range of media. The coloring sheets are printed in the USA on eco-sustainable paper.
Tom is a mixed-media artist and product designer who has been creating studio art, public art and products professionally for more than 20 years. His artwork can be found at www.Thomas-Strich.com. Maria is an environmental professional, a nature photographer, and a birder.
Thank you so much for taking a look at our work. We hope you like what you see and spread the word.
